Well, I started my week at the always happily busy Flower Market while helping Natalie Bowen Designs and ended it there today too. A girl can never get tired of flowers, right? Finally got to see the San Francisco Decorators Showcase house, worked on a fun design project with bmod and started a proposal for a freelance project (a little girls' room). Add a company of good people into the mix and you have a very happy person here. How was your week lovelies? Nice and creative I hope?

The featured home is taking my breath away. The Villa Overby by Swedish architect John Robert Nilsson is located in Sweden and you might recognize it from the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Sharing a couple of stunning Chanel retail projects done by architect Peter Marino.

First is Chanel in Ginza. Minimal and very effective. I was mostly drawn to the wall surfaces and the facade.

The subtly shifting color palette is a nice statement:

Next is Chanel in Beverly Hills.

These enormous glass beads are driving me insane. Love them.

Cool graphics, again in a large scale.

What is the white and black hanging piece? Don't you want to run your hand through it too?

Remember the mappings project I worked on for one of my classes and talked about here? Today I wanted to share the finished product with you. My group focused on the Financial District in San Francisco and I chose to portray my findings in forms of mappings. The statement with my approach is below.

Associations related to banking, male dominated culture and work-oriented social interactions. Connotation of efficiency, distance and anonymity. On many levels, that is the rightful expression of the Financial District. However, the intrigue to uncover, discover and highlight the other, less known moments present within the district was hard to resist. Mapping the presence of daily passing points, no matter how noticeable at first they might be, I was interested in the current, day-to day state of the district and the elements that are integrated within and are forming the culture that exists there. Cafés, restaurants, bars, retail shops, public green spaces, banks and ATMS’ and the density of heights of the buildings offered the potential to uncover the consequential notions within the district that might otherwise come unnoticed. On many levels, as is true about all other districts of the beautiful San Francisco, even the Financial District has its layers combined of unique subcultures.

The attempt in the mapping project was to translate the hidden essence of the Financial District through the selected subjects. While using researched and personally collected data in the mappings, I aimed for rather artistic representation. The effort was to create more human associations with the district and to invite new impressions with it. Using watercolors in combination with markers in pastel colors over sand blasted and hand-etched acrylic surface was to blur the boundaries of the image of male-dominated area, typically associated with cool colors tones of shades of blues, grays and black. In the concept of this project, presenting poetic color scheme hopefully allows for new opportunities of perception.

There will be a gallery show in the Fall and I can't wait to see my babies hang on a beautiful white wall.

Sharing more Mark Seelen photography to start your week just right.

The bedroom (below) is still one of the best rooms I've ever seen.

The sleek wood panelling and simple white kitchen counter with a pop of orange on seat cushions is great.

The massive wood wall divider on the left (maybe it's a storage on the other side?), the sofa, Kelly green chair, and the wide open entry to the balcony just works.

A bit of European flair, I like of course. The low hanging light and concrete walls in particular.

Rich, saturated colors create a certain kind of mood in here. The one thing that I would change are the lights, just saying.
